The next Chipset from MediaTek, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC will come with support for the Gemini Nano AI model from Google, the chipmaker has confirmed. That chipset, the Dimensity 9400 is going to be launched tomorrow, 09th October, and the devices with the same will also be out this month.
MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC Powered Gemini Nano To Flagship Devices
This includes the upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 9400 flagship mobile chipset due for release this month and other Generative AI-enabled chipsets. The still unreleased Dimensity 9400 will include a new 8th-generation NPU that supports text, image, and speech hardware acceleration.
MediaTek’s collaboration with Google underscores the joint focus on delivering Generative AI experiences across all the Android tiers and puts Android on a new trajectory when it comes to the adoption of sophisticated deep learning models that run locally on the device. Through multimodal models, images will be taken and the user will be provided with descriptions of what has been captured.
The future Dimensity 9400 is going to have a new dedicated Neural Processing Unit that is an 8th generation at least, promising improved performance at text, image, and speech processing. Multimodal features tied into Gemini Nano make the system capable of supporting more complex artificial intelligence solutions.
MediaTek says that this may lead to elements including generating descriptive text of images captured using a smartphone. Other possible use cases are real-time call transcription, summarizing text, and generating images which are today available only with Pixel gadgets.
MediaTek’s support for Gemini Nano could make Google extend some of the pixel-exclusive AI features to other Android smartphones. This move may open up the prospect of further improving the AI features in non-Pixel Android smartphones, and so bring about a more integrated and advanced AI environment for on-phone AI throughout the Android environment.
