Google is slowly but steadily pushing us towards accepting Gemini as the new possible replacement for Google Assistant. You can now make Gemini your default assistant while Google has been busy porting many of the familiar Assistant features to it such as creating reminders. However, the reminder setting option appears to have been a let-down for Gemini.
Tech expert Artem Russakovskii mentioned the problem on X/Twitter last week, stating that Gemini and Google Assistant stopped allowing users to create reminders without a time. There is a problem with reminders among Google’s AI assistants. It is no longer possible for users to create reminders without inputting a time as it was in the previous version.

Earlier, you could tell Google Assistant that you wanted to be reminded of something, and Google Tasks would add a new task with no need to specify the time or date. It was useful for the daily schedule checklist without the need to set reminders for each of them all the time. If you wanted, you could add a reminder time, but it wasn’t essential at all.
But today both Google Assistant and Gemini are required to set a particular time for saving the reminder. This was the case even when I specifically told Gemini to create a task without needing a reminder to do so.
It is possible to create tasks in Google Tasks without the date or time, but when using Google’s assistants to create the tasks, they will want to know the exact time to remind you. Hopefully, this is a one-time issue, and Gemini and Google Assistant will not follow this path with reminders in the future. It is still possible to create a reminder manually with no time; the problem is when using AI assistants.
