Google has recently released the new Gemini extension for Spotify in order to enjoy all the associated features of the artificial intelligence assistant on Android, to play or search for music on Spotify. Announced on the Gemini Support page, users are now able to command Gemini to play or even search for songs, albums, artists, playlists, and much more on Spotify.
Spotify Gemini Extension only for Android
Spotify clarified that the extension only functions when users are inside the Gemini app or when Gemini is the default voice assistant. Currently, this feature is not supported for the Gemini app for iOS. Currently, the Spotify extension only works when one ‘connects’ their Spotify account to a Google account.
More specifically, Spotify will broadcast the users’ desired songs only for those who are subscribed to Spotify Premium services. The report at The Verge also said that the new extension will not enable users to create playlists or radio stations with Spotify.
Gemini Apps Activity
Gemini Extensions are disabled by default; the activity is called “Gemini Apps Activity” to turn this on. Furthermore, this can be achieved by tapping on the Google Account menu of the Gemini app and enabling “Gemini Apps Activity.”.
How to enable the Spotify extension in Gemini?
- Link your Spotify account to your Google account. This can mostly be done by going to your Google account settings. You will notice that there are two interfaces.
- Enable Gemini Apps Activity—This adjustment enables Gemini to obtain your data and deliver additional tailored results.
- Use voice commands or text prompts. You can tell Gemini to play music, get songs, artists, or albums, and even set lists.
- For instance, you can tell it to play ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ on Spotify or ‘Play some jazz music, please’ on Spotify.
At the moment the Spotify extension can only be used on Android devices only. For now, it is not possible on iOS or the web version of Gemini.
