OpenAI shared that the Advanced Voice Mode that powers ChatGPT is headed for the web. Previously accessible only on an invite-only beta to paying customers, this new release also boosts the conversational UX by allowing voice-based interactions right within a browser. This development also provides users with a second platform to interact with the chatbot, this time the audible and real-time chat on the web.
This has made it easier and more natural when relating with the AI chatbot. At the time of writing, the feature is only accessible to those who have a Plus, Enterprise, Teams, or Edu subscription to ChatGPT. The introduction of Advanced Voice Mode makes it even easier when rolled out.
In total, ChatGPT has nine variations of the output voice, each with its own unique personality and intonation. It provides enhanced voice control, which is natural and can express emotion, adjust its pitch and stress, as well as certain keywords for the actual experience.
OpenAI has introduced five new voices for GPT: They have named all of their previous models Breeze, Juniper, Cove, and Ember, with the recent additions of Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce, and Vale.
To begin a voice conversation on the web, you simply click on the Voice icon at the bottom right of the ChatGPT prompt box.
You will then be required to grant the browser access to your computer’s microphone. After a voice chat has begun, the conversation will take place on a screen that will have a blue sphere in the middle of it.
