Google’s new artificial intelligence-powered assistant, Gemini, is gradually replacing Google Assistant on Android because it can answer queries, write text, search images on the go, and respond. Still, it was missing something it couldn’t accomplish, which Google Assistant could always pull off. That’s already changing with new Gemini Extensions , which will let GenAI assistant play music using Spotify or text my friends using WhatsApp.
Such features are sending messages via WhatsApp or playing certain songs on Spotify among others. Of course, you can do some of these things right now, but instead of Gemini, it uses Google Assistant Actions.
Here the change is that Gemini obtains these extensions, which makes incorporating them more efficient and comprehensiveness of their integration. It should also perform these tasks faster and make Google Messages and Spotify API compatible with it.
Gemini Extension Spotted Via Google App Beta
In Android, Google is trying out Gemini extensions for WhatsApp, Spotify, and Google Messages, following the leak published by Assemble Debug (through Android Authority). Earlier, Google Assistant Actions used to let you converse with apps, for instance, to send a message in WhatsApp to a friend. They experienced Gemini extension in Google App (Beta version number 15.40.31.29).
While Gemini can already perform similar tasks using Google Assistant, native extensions are coming to Gemini, which should allow for better interaction and better integration with these apps.
The feature is currently rolling out, but it is unknown when it will be available to the public. However, , since the leaker was able to activate it then it should be expected that it is on its way.
With the YouTube Extension, users can play a song and show a thumbnail which will take them to the app like the Spotify Extension. Some of the features of the Extension are available for both free and Premium Spotify users.
