Gemini Live

Google introduced the Pixel 9 series and several new AI features in parallel with it. This included Pixel Studio, smarter Magic Eraser, and Gemini Live the latest AI features in which users can converse with the Gemini.

While Gemini Live was available earlier only to Gemini Advanced subscribers, it appears that Google is now making Gemini Live available to Android users free of charge. As reviewed by 9to5Google, the new feature can be activated directly in the Gemini app on the mobile device or in the Gemini app/overlay, if one is engaged, by tapping on the new circular waveform which is embellished with a sparkle in the bottom right corner of the Gemini app.

Google rolling out Gemini Live & voices to free users on Android

The announcement came via the Google Gemini app account on X: ”Gemini Live will be available in English to more people using the Android app for free: Go Live to debate with Gemini, discuss a topic or come up with ideas… Watch for Gemini Live in the Gemini app.”

Pressing on the icon launches the full-screen version of Gemini Live under which there are two more buttons; ‘End’ and ‘Hold’ buttons placed at the bottom of the screen along with a large blue waveform animation at the middle of the screen just like it was with Gemini Advanced. When the feature is turned ON this notification also appears on the application screen to let the user know that the feature has been activated. Users can leave the conversion from the notification too.

Furthermore, to make the enhancing conversations even more engaging, the users will receive a text message that contains the whole history of the conversation with the Gemini bot. This is also similar to the user experience in Voice Mode in ChatGPT whereby the user is only prompted to input a command after it has asked some sample questions.

Clicking on the icon brings up a full-screen version of Gemini Live, complete with “End” and “Hold” buttons resting at the bottom while a massive blue wave graphic dominates the space in the middle, which is almost identical to that of Gemini Advanced. During its operations, there is a notification that appears showing the status of the feature as well. They can quit the conversation from the same notification as well as from the left side of the interface.
