Reports state that Google Gemini’s large language model (LLM) smallest version ‘Gemini Nano’ will going to feature in Samsung’s foldable ‘Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6’ phones, they are the first smartphone to run on Google’s on-device LLM and would run One UI 6.1.1 update.
Although a variety of Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold series have received Galaxy AI, these devices use AI features of Samsung’s own AI models. Even when Google’s on-device LLM isn’t downloaded on your device, still it will provide access to run AI features offline.
Samsung’s latest phones are the first foldable phones to support Google’s Gemini Nano
Also, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 ship with the ‘AI core’ service pre-installed, it is an Android system service that handles the downloading and updating of the Gemini Nano model.
Moreover, the AI Core app measures around 1GB file in size, when it has Gemini Nano downloaded. However, without downloading Google’s on-device LLM it has a size of around 50MB. Also, Google Keyboard can use Gemini Nano for the Smart reply Features, but the problem arises when Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 can’t have this feature for some reason.
Furthermore, the Magic Compose feature in the Google Messages app suggests replies based on the conversation on the chat. It uses the last 20 messages in the chat thread to suggest replies understanding the context accordingly. Only improved privacy devices have access to this feature. Also, the Pixel 8 Pro and the Galaxy S24 are the only lists to run on Nano, however, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 are also included devices to have these features present in them.
