In the Unpacked event, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z series and the plan to incorporate the meaning of ‘Galaxy AI’ to improve that user interface. However, there seemed to be an interesting omission; one of the key players in the AI market, Samsung’s own AI assistant, Bixby, was missing.
Moreover, the Z series from Samsung mentioned that Google’s Gemini will be incorporated into all of the series. But it appears that Samsung has not thrown in the towel when it comes to Bixby as well. A smartphone assistant feature was begun in 2017 and the program is not just dead but very active.
Samsung Bixby’s Revival With GenAI Upgrade
A report stated that Bixby will be injected with the company’s own LLM, as a way of adding new competencies and characteristics. However, such features were not declared. The company brought out its second Galaxy Unpacked of ’22 this week and showcased new AI features for the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Buds 3 series.
At the time of the unveiling of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 models, the senior executive said that the Bixby will be upgraded and released later this year. He informed CNBC that the new version will be driven by Samsung’s Large Language Model (LLM), something that can be considered useful to talk about.
Bixby has been around for a long time but if it doesn’t get this AI upgrade then ironically Samsung is likely to shift to another platform or make do with Gemini for its hardware.
The new Bixby is expected to take on a new look and arrive together with the One UI 7, presumptive to be rolled out this year. This update should be released together with the S25 series to allow Samsung to demonstrate the effectiveness of Bixby.
The new and enhanced Bixby will not only. For instance, Bixby Home can change the home page dynamically based on the usage pattern and display information on weather, reminders, articles, and so much more
