Gemini

Google Assistant enables its users to set alarms and timers without requiring the users to unlock their devices. However, most of the other commands work only when the device is unlocked.

With the new updates, some of them include ‘Gemini on lock screen’ and ‘extensions on lock screen’ which would allow responding to simple and general questions or tasks without even needing to unlock the device.

Gemini Live may operate in the background of other applications or even when the screen is turned off or locked, making the real-time conversational AI “available at all times.”

Google’s response to OpenAI’s GPT-4o enhanced voice or Apple’s new Siri – Gemini Live is slated for a summer release and will enable users to engage in bi-directional talks with the AI using plain English. Details on how it will work have remained vague and unclear.

A new teardown update reveals the background feature

Further, from an APK teardown conducted by 9to5Google, it was found that Gemini possesses code strings that point towards the ability to continue the chat while using other applications.

The string references a ‘background mode’ and the feature is defined as the feature that allows you to “keep Live chats active during use of other applications or when the screen is locked. ”

The publication thinks that the string refers to Gemini Live, the feature that was first introduced during the Google I/O 2024 event. At the event, Google characterized it as a back-and-forth conversation feature in which the user can speak with the AI.

Allowing Gemini Live to acknowledge input and respond while you do other things on the device could be meant to give users a more engaging and realistic experience, according to the report.

The major benefit of the users

Gemini on the lock screen and extensions on the lock screen will enable the user to obtain answers to general questions and much more.

With the updated version, one can see that options such as Messages, Workspace, and Home Automation will be provided to the user. This implies that users will be able to offer support regarding matters concerning these extensions.
