Samsung is discussing new digital health coaching options using LLM as one of the ways to integrate AI into its key products. It can also be viewed as an attempt to ward off competitors such as Google and Apple as they progress with their own health-related gadgets and smart assistants. The plan includes the utilization of an LLM to assist in explaining and analyzing a person’s health information, the insiders said and requested anonymity because the plans are not yet disclosed.
Though earlier this year a Samsung executive discussed the general interest of people in a digital wellness coach and the potential of LLMs to interpret health data, Samsung has not shared specifics of new products or features that may have been developed using the technology.
Samsung keeps silent on the statement
Samsung declined to comment. It is not clear whether the initiative still exists and how or if it will be included in a final publicly available product. When Hon Pak, the vice president and head of the digital health team for the mobile experience business at Samsung Electronics, CNET was interviewed in January he did not deny this possibility during a talk about Samsung.
Samsung Electronics, the world’s largest smartphone maker by shipment, has been incorporating artificial intelligence features into its Galaxy smartphones, laptops, and smartwatches in a move that executives have described as the transition to the new age of mobility.
Samsung may plan for a significant move during the Unpacked event
Samsung is expected to give more information on its health and wearables during its subsequent Unpacked event, which according to bloggers at Sam Mobile and the Korean newspaper The Chosun Daily is slated for July 10. Samsung usually unveils new smartwatches and foldable phones during the summer Unpacked event. If it follows the tradition this year, consumers will be able to witness the official announcement of the Galaxy Ring and new models of Galaxy Watch. During a CNET interview in January, the head of the digital health team for the mobile experience business at Samsung Electronics, Hon Pak, didn’t dismiss the idea of Samsung working on a chatbot or virtual assistant designed for health data navigation.
Samsung’s project along with similar initiatives from Google and Apple makes it apparent that health tracking is the next thing that’s ready for an AI upgrade. The focus on AI is also apparent across the industry, Samsung ventured into the consumer health sector earlier this year with the launch of the Galaxy Ring health tracker that can passively monitor health statistics from the wearer’s finger
