As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, new ‘Apple Intelligence’ features that will be launched at WWDC 2024 are expected to include features available on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 that will all be unveiled at the conference. The new AI features that Apple plans to release are meant to help out with simple routines and will be incorporated into the operating system of the device.
Apple iOS 18 AI features
These AI capabilities will arrive with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15. These features are going to be optional and Apple is not going to force users to use new features if they do not wish to do so. The processing requirements of AI will mean that users need an iPhone 15 Pro or one of the iPhone 16 models coming out this year to use it. For those running iPads or Macs, models will need an M1 chip at the very least. Apple’s AI elements will be homegrown, but tools from OpenAI will be used; however, OpenAI will also provide a ChatGPT-like chatbot.
Apple to bring OpenAI technology to its devices
Gurman noted that Apple will employ its technology and OpenAI to introduce Apple Intelligence to its devices. Working with the AI firm would also introduce a chatbot similar to ChatGPT to Apple’s devices. It seems the AI features will constitute roughly half of the content of Apple’s WWDC keynote, meaning that there will be lots of AI at WWDC. Apple is expected to implement on-device and cloud-based AI capabilities in some of its features, according to the information. Even Gurman admits that OpenAI is contributing to some of the AI features in iOS 18.
For instance, future versions of Apple’s Photos app may feature better editing tools, such as a tool comparable to Google’s Smart Eraser tool. The company may also present Generative AI features that enable the creation of emojis from text.
