New features for the Gemini app are debuting for Android and iOS applications including the file upload. With this update, users can upload all sorts of documents seamlessly. It started on September 4, 2024, and increased the application’s functionality to a significant level.
As discovered by 9to5Google, the full-screen Gemini app now displays a plus icon at the bottom, to the left. It sits right beside the Pill for Microphone and Camera. Once the user taps on it, he/she is presented with three options on Android: Well known options such as upload file, upload from the gallery (system photo picker), and upload from the drive. There is no option to ‘Upload from Drive’ Gemini using either the Google app drive or the iOS app on it.
Gemini file uploading feature
In this new feature, Live is going to add support for file upload rather than going for Gemini. google. com after other further extensions all are will need only Gemini AI Advanced. Next, the Fullscreen Gemini App includes a plus icon on the bottom-left of the application after implementing this feature. The new icon will be situated to the right of the microphone and camera pill while Gemini Live is to be on the left side.
As for what file types are supported, these include:
- Surveys that are made using Google Forms
- Plain text files: TXT
- Document files: DOC, DOCX, PDF, RTF, DOT, DOTX, HWP, HWPX
- Certain features available on Google Docs such as documents created
- Tabular data files: The file formats include CSV and TSV.
- Spreadsheet files: XLS, XLSX
This application also accepts files from Excel with codes xlsx and xls in addition to spreadsheets made on Google Sheets. Uploading of files is also done in batches with one batch containing 10 files and each file is required to be less than 100MB in size.
How to make use of the feature?
With the latest update, one can now avail of the new feature in AI which is the ability to upload files. Regarding this functionality, there is nothing complicated and complex in the present interface. Here’s how to get started:
- Now launch the Gemini app on your device.
- Go to the part of the site where you wish to put the files. That means that there is a digital upload button that you have to click on in order to choose documents that are located on your device.
- Select the type of file you want to upload – your selection will be finalized.
