Gemini a new floating overlay panel, was rolled out this week which will be rolling out to Android users. This awesome new feature was introduced on the 17th of August, 2024, and is an augmentation of the contextual view. To this end, the Gemini overlay floating panel feature is intended to ensure that users are retained without interference with their other routines.
Gemini overlay floating panel for Android users
This new interface, which is currently tested by 9to5google and being delivered for Android, incorporates a slick glow animation around the panel when Gemini is invoked. This subtle glow looks neat and is a sign that your Gemini’s got a new trick up its sleeve: a contextual overlay that knows what you’re getting up to without monopolizing your entire screen.
It is also capable of expanding, outstandingly, to reveal longer responses, and concurrently, to integrate impeccably with Gemini’s image production function. Gemini overlay floating panel is made in such a way that users can drop built-in images to other applications, for instance, Gmail or Google Messages. For those who like the full-screen mode, one can open the panel by a swipe on the top right corner.
The “Ask about this video” button
Also, Gemini now has an “Ask about this video” button that will appear if invoked while the person is watching a video on YouTube. It is important to note that the button below the video, will help you to either get a brief of the video or quiz you on information about the video.
Besides YouTube, the button will be “Ask about this screen.” In contrast to Gemini Live, the Gemini overlay floating panel is going to be available to free users as well.
Of the key additional features, there is the floating panel, which should help in using Gemini while on the go. Other features added include the image generation integration, and the ‘Ask about this video’ chip which should equally serve to bring additional value for Gemini.
Gemini overlay floating panel feature was discussed at the I/O 2024 conference back in May; instead of taking over the full screen, Gemini can send replies straight within the app you are operating.
This design modification seeks to achieve is to enable users to stay on the current tasks and activities while standing to gain the benefits from Gemini. The immersive way therefore is still available in that you just have to tap on the top corner of the overlay and it becomes a full screen.
