Owing to information from Twitter, Gemini Live is to be integrated into the Google Chrome web browser on your PC or laptop. This advanced two-way conversational AI form was initially revealed to Gemini Advanced customers on the Android system in September and then unveiled on the iOS platform in the current month through the Gemini for iOS application.
Originally shared on X by Leopeva64, Glic would incorporate Gemini Live’s real-time AI assistant in Chrome based on what has been found in Chromium Gerrit—Chrome’s code sandbox. Leopeva64 is exposed, and Glic is much more than just another Chrome feature. It has a settings page of its own; it requires permissions for microphone and location—two pretty large hints that it’s an interactive agent/type of assistant.
Also in discussion, there’s a floating panel or side UI that provides information about whatever page you are on. Indeed, it looks like Glic will seize the system tray to run quietly in the background and instantly pop up to help when required.
Based on users’ profiles, users may also be able to use the toolbar to access the GLIC, use a hotkey to open it and control its activity. Launched during Google I/O 2024 in May, Gemini Live is a real-time conversation feature built and energized on AI to enable users to hold meetings and make conversations using natural language with the chatbot.
The effort to integrate Gemini Live into Chrome has continued since early November, and a feature specifically for Gemini Live was turned on November 8. The simplest case, switching on the GLIC flag in Chrome Canary, is unobtrusive to me in the sense that it does not display a tab strip icon: You get a distinct GLIC section in Chrome’s settings instead.
At Gemini Live, users can choose from ten different voices with which to converse with Gemini, the difference in pitch, regional accent, or energetic levels of voices. This AI feature supports more than 40 languages, including 9 Indian languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu.
