It has been reported by Bloomberg that Apple plans to include Google‘s Gemini AI as well as ChatGPT for iOS 18 this year. This has been confirmed by the company, which stated it would integrate with OpenAI and introduce ChatGPT, an AI chatbot for the operating system.
Apple also noted that they would not restrict themselves to only ChatGPT and that they are planning to bring more choices for other chatbots into other versions of the operating system.
Apple officially Apple Intelligence
In June at its yearly developers meeting known as the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple also introduced its array of AI tools termed as Apple Intelligence.
At the event, Apple also revealed a collaboration with OpenAI to incorporate ChatGPT into its future iterations. As we also covered the story, that Gemini could be rolled out in Apple devices with iOS 18 update.
Now The company is currently in negotiations with Google and Amazon-backed firm Anthropic. Apple, the technology company based in Cupertino, is probably looking to incorporate artificial intelligence tools from each of these companies into its operating systems for iPhones, Macs, and iPads.
Such a collaboration might be unveiled before the release of the iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, which is expected to be released together with the new iPhone series in September.
Advantages for the users
- As for Google’s Gemini AI, it is expected that Apple will apply the same approach as with the integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Apple has clarified the misconception that OpenAI’s ChatGPT powers Apple Intelligence; it has its own AI capacity, both present on the same device. They have to allow apps and services to make requests to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
- Apple believes that this approach is the best one for protecting users’ privacy and providing services to third-party companies. A partnership with Google must look similar to the integration with Apple to bring Gemini as an option on their devices.
- As for the new affiliates, the Bloomberg report described Apple as potentially seeking to monetize Artificial intelligence features and others as paid services. This is however not expected shortly. Another possible scenario is that Apple might release “Apple Intelligence Plus,” with extended AI capabilities as a paid upgrade.
When will Apple integrate Gemini on its devices?
This Apple considers the best approach for preserving the user’s privacy as well as providing services from other companies.
It has also been discovered that a majority of the current AI features in Siri will not be available until 2025. The report has also affirmed that Apple was never in the process of adding Llama 3 by Meta into the iOS 18.
