OpenAI has added an “agentic” feature in its ChatGPT app for macOS to synchronize with other apps. This update allows ChatGPT to interface with enabled apps, help users by accessing on-screen content, and perform tasks.
OpenAI is presented using an agentic version of ChatGPT to work on macOS as an embedded application, which can interact with applications such as Apple Notes, Notion, Xcode, and VS Code. From this update, the AI can read the on-screen information as well as perform tasks, thereby increasing efficiency.
Agentic ChatGPT Key Features
- App Integration: You are right! ChatGPT now supports applications including Apple Notes, Notion, Quip, Xcode, VS Code, etc. This integration enables the AI to be able to access and read info from these apps to be in a position to be more accurate in its assistance.
- Advanced Voice Mode: Employing voice commands, users can interact with ChatGPT while employing integrated apps at work, thus making their work easier and more efficient.
- Enhanced System Integration: The update makes ChatGPT capable of communicating with other applications on the user’s computer, which would allow it to draw on context from the application the user is currently using.
Currently, in macOS, this feature is only available to paid ChatGPT users, with future releases in Windows and to non-paying customers expected in 2025. In allowing ChatGPT to work fluently in and across multiple applications, OpenAI is seeking to create an ‘agentic’ AI”—an entity that proactively acts on behalf of the user to complete tasks and thereby make the user experience smoother and more straightforward.”
Availability
The features are currently available only on macOS. Most of these features are limited to ChatGPT’s paid tier, especially the Plus plan, or if you have access to this GPT-4. These features are to be extended to Windows users and free-tier users in 2025 by OpenAI.
Supported Apps
- New IDEs: BBEdit, MatLab, Nova, Script Editor, and TextMate
- VS Code forks: VSCodium, Cursor, VSCode Insiders, and WindSurf
- JetBrains IDEs: Android Studio, AppCode, CLion, DataGrip, GoLand, IntelliJ IDEA, PHPStorm, PyCharm, RubyMine, RustRover, and WebStorm
- Terminal apps: Prompts and Warp
- Productivity apps: Apple Notes, Notion, and Quip
Accessibility
The feature integrates well with other applications such as Apple Notes, Notion, Quip, Xcode, and VS Code, enhancing the current functioning and enabling task facility. The new version of voice control and context-aware help makes operation more convenient for those who prefer not to use their hands. It is global, yet there could be some limitations in some regions or different phases if it is applied by OpenAI.
