Gmail will soon have a couple of AI enhancements. One of them introduces the Summarise email feature, which was previously available only on the web, to the iOS and Android applications. For instance, the web version of Gmail will also receive the Gemini side panel that was introduced for other Google applications such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and Google Drive. These AI features will be accessible to Google Workspace customers who either have a business or education account or a Google One AI Premium subscription.
Gemini can be accessed by Google Workspace users with a Google One AI Premium subscription the Gemini Business and Enterprise add-on or the Gemini Education and Education Premium add-on. Before this, the only way to use the AI features in Gmail is by signing up for the Google Workspace Lab.
Gmail can now be easily accessed through AI
As for the Gemini features, Gmail for the web is also receiving new layout changes. Gemini AI will now be located in a bar that will slide from the right side and appear on top of the right margin. The side panel was previously integrated into several other Google Workspace apps. Gemini in Gmail is powered by the Gemini 1. It has several features including ‘Summarise an email thread’, ‘Email thread Q&A’, ‘Compose an email’, and ‘Email thread follow-up’.
There are some key announcements from Google’s I/O developer conference like asking questions regarding a live feed from the phone and new hints about an AR glasses product. However, the feature that elicited the most excitement amongst my co-workers was the ability to link Gemini to Gmail. Some innovations that Google demonstrated include, for instance, using AI to summarize your emails so that you do not go through the entire message. You could even summarize a Google Meet video that someone has shared with you.
