OpenAI has earlier released a new version of the ChatGPT mobile app with a new feature called Background Conversation which will enable the user to still be conversing with ChatGPT Voice even when the user exits the app and uses other apps on their phone or if the screen is turned off.
In ChatGPT, especially regarding the newer version of the model and some interfaces, the term “background conversation” is used to describe the additional feature that enables the model to keep track of the session. This means it can be handy in having continuous conversations in which the context or the details from the previous chats are remembered which makes the conversation more coherent and more personalized.
How It Works
- Context Retention: The model saves and uses a little part of the information that has been exchanged in the previous interactions to predict the interactions in the subsequent conversations. This is particularly useful in sustaining context over several sessions.
- Session Management: In some of the implementations, the conversations are implemented in pro sessions with the context being preserved till the individual session is still active.
- Enabling Background Conversation – Some platforms might allow background conversation or use session memory while/where some others might not or it can be due to the particular instance of ChatGPT being used.
Check Your Platform: Just make sure that you’re using a version of ChatGPT that can do background conversations, which I believe will be fine. It could be possible this they had included this feature in the latest version of the ChatGPT app or some of the new web interfaces being used.
Subscription Levels: Some of the additional options like session memory or context handling could be available only for the users who have Premium or paid access. Look whether there are some paid features for more extended functionality sometimes it can be enough to try a trial for two weeks.
Settings and Preferences: Sometimes the settings are clearly labeled with phrases such as conversation history or memory option in the course of using a particular application. For instance, there can be settings regarding what the user wants to appear within the context or regarding perusing habitually, within the user settings or preferences, where you can enable or tweak it.
Background conversation: How to access
OpenAI does not enable the background conversations feature by default and users will need to turn it on for it to work. To access this feature:
- Go to the ChatGPT app settings
- Tap on the Voice mode section
- Turn on the background conversations toggle and then start chatting with the voice of your choice.
- iPhone users can access ChatGPT voices by wiping on the dynamic island when they are in another app where the AI chatbot is still running.
