Recently it was reported that Google does not want to make its own XR headsets or glasses, rather they are looking to partner with EssilorLuxottica, which is behind Ray-Bans for Gemini AI smart glasses.

Moreover, EssilorLuxottica is already working with Meta on the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses also it emerged that Meta wants to take a minority stake, which in light of the Google move could be viewed as a defensive measure. 

However, there’s not any official detail coming out from the Google side, related to their investment possibility with Meta. Although it’s not confirmed yet what brand Google going to choose to make glasses with EssilorLuxottica is also behind Oakley, while also owing LensCrafter and Sunglass Hut. 

Meanwhile, in terms of specs, certainly Google is not ready to put the initiative towards glasses yet, and for coping with multimodal Gemini capabilities a microphone, speaker, and camera would be suggested as a hypothetical device. 

Therefore, Google’s partnership with Magic Leap has also come with headlines, besides AR OPtics and manufacturing, the goal is to create a developer headset running Android XR that’s based on the Magic Leap 2. It is rumored that Google is going to release its headset with Samsung In October ahead of a 2025 launch.
